“Working with Brendan this year has changed my views completely on the use of strength and conditioning workouts for fighters. The dynamic and explosive exercises as well as the mobility exercises have vastly improved my strength within my sport and has even helped to rehabilitate the injuries I have. If you are a fighter and are not using the techniques and training methods that Brendan teaches, then you putting yourself at a disadvantage in a highly competitive sport! If you want to be in tip top condition and compete at the highest level then you need to train with Brendan.”

Danny Mitchell
Current British and European Welterweight MMA Champion, British Unlicensed Boxing Champion

“Brendan is an amazing trainer and person, I have never worked with a more professional and brilliant coach. His approach to strength and conditioning has been the breath of fresh air I have been looking for and even after a few months of his coaching I am feeling definite improvement’s in my Mixed Martial Arts game. I have been so impressed that I have asked Brendan to be the conditioning coach for my team.

In my last two fights Brendan has changed the way I have prepared completely. His strength and conditioning methods have made me stonger, faster and gave me far better endurance. It has been an honour working with Brendan. He has really taken me to another level.

I train and compete In MMA , mixed martial arts , and have done so for several years . I have always been keen to improve on my skills as a fighter so when my MMA coach arranged the opportunity to start a S&C programme with Brendan I was keen to start.

Training started late January of this year and it became clear very quickly there were aspects of S&C that I had not addressed , after only a few weeks on the programme I noticed significant changes and improvements.

Through intense Saturday morning and Thursday evening sessions I Improved aspects of my training that I had not worked on before .

Since starting training with Brendan I have competed twice and had good results especially with regards to how I felt in the cage , I hope to build on the training we’ve done in the last 6 month and continue to grow and Improve.

“Brendan has been an amazing influence for me on my journey towards becoming a prominent professional British fighter.  His advice concerning correct nutrition specific to my own needs, as well as his tips on conditioning, have helped me become a more successful athlete and have helped me to win a British Title in my chosen sport.  I still use Brendan as the strength and conditioning coach for my own gym and will continue to use his advice and training methods as my career progresses”

-Improvements in reactive strength, a key element of athleticism

DOMINATE YOUR OPPONENTS ON THE MAT AND IN THE CAGE!!!

- Training for Injury Reduction: The key facet of the programme. Staying healthy allows you to train harder and for longer. You really cannot put enough time into these elements. We address this in the following ways:

Soft Tissue Work:
Working on the quality of the Tissue to allow for more efficient movement

Static Stretching:
To Improve Muscle Length in Key Areas

Muscle Activation:
Turning on the right muscles at the right time to allow for quality movement mechanics in the session to follow

Mobility Work:
This allows for your joints to function properly and helps to keep you healthy and moving well

Core Stability:
Training the core for its true functional roles. You will not see hundreds of crunches in our programmes they simply are not functional!

Joint Specific Injury Reduction:
We look at common injury areas and work to stabilise and/or mobilise key areas within the programme. These exercises are the ones which really keep you training and reduce the incidence of minor injuries and pain.

KEY COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAMME

Coaching by Brendan Chaplin MSc ASCC CSCS
High Performance Strengh and Conditioning Coach
MMA Participant for 8 Years and BJJ Purple Belt

Recovery is Key:

After a tough session you need to start your recovery immediately. Nutrition, sleep and methods such as ice baths and contrast showers all have their place. We will provide you with the information, you need to implement it!!

Build Unbeatable Endurance:

You need to have amazing conditioning to win MMA fights, that is clear. Both the aerobic system and anaerobic system need to be developed.

We utilise heart rate monitoring extensively and have a programme of intervals leading up to fight time. Both general training such as sprints, and more MMA specific drills are used within our conditioning sessions.

Develop Upper and Lower Body Power:

Transferring Strength gains into useable power is another key element of the programme. This is done through weights training as well as plyometrics and MMA specific drills.

Develop Relative Body Strength:

The key to athletic performance! Improving your ability to produce force whilst maintaining bodyweight is absolutely vital to MMA performance. It allows you to wrestle harder and with more strength, punch and kick faster and harder, and actually improves your cardiovascular performance too!

Joint Specific Injury Reduction:

We look at common injury areas and work to stabilise and/or mobilise key areas within the programme. These exercises are the ones which really keep you training and reduce the incidence of minor injuries and pain.

Training for Performance: Clearly improvements in explosiveness and endurance are vitally important for todays MMA competitors. Our programme has several key elements.

NEXT STEP: BOOK IN FOR ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

Clearly we cannot evaluate where we are going to focus without a full assessment of physical qualities.

We look at your physical performance through general and tennis specific exercises and tests as well as your movement qualities which are examined through a musculoskeletal screening. The results of each comprehensive evaluation give us a detailed outline of your strengths and weaknesses which then forms the basis of the programme moving forward. The programme is then regularly monitored on a session by session basis.
